History and Heritage
Established in 1820, Union County boasts a rich heritage proudly displayed throughout its historic buildings and markers. Take a walk along the main streets of the city and admire their historical buildings, such as Plain City’s Clocktower, Richwood’s Opera House and Union County’s Courthouse, a testament to the preservation of history in the county. In honoring those who come before us, we have many tributes and memorials, featuring Bethlehem Claibourne Veteran’s Memorial and Veterans of Foreign War Memorial. Union County’s rich history is celebrated by Richwood’s Independent Fair. One of the six remaining independent fairs in Ohio and has been a cherished tradition for 132 years as of 2024. These landmarks, events, and memorials celebrate Union County’s spirit while preserving its history.
